CustomVue™: Vision Correction That's Uniquely Yours
People who choose LASIK may now have the option to "upgrade" their treatment with CustomVue™. This treatment utilizes technology that was originally developed for use in high-powered telescopes to reduce distortions when viewing distant objects in space. Now applied to laser vision correction, this new technology called "wavefront" measures imperfections in the eye that were impossible to measure before.

While CustomVue is the latest generation of LASIK treatment, it is not suited for everybody. Following are answers to some commonly asked questions regarding CustomVue™, which may help you decide whether it's right for you. Do not hesitate to contact us or to make an appointment for a free, no-obligation consultation.

What makes CustomVue™ different than regular LASIK?
Both types of LASIK treatment, CustomVue™ and conventional LASIK, are very precise. What CustomVue™ offers that conventional LASIK does not is the ability to tailor your LASIK treatment to address detailed vision errors specific to the anatomy of your individual eyes that are not detectable using conventional LASIK diagnostic measurements.

Am I a candidate for CustomVue™?
To be a candidate for CustomVue™, you must first be a candidate for LASIK. LASIK is generally suited to those who have refractive vision errors , are at least 21 years old, are in overall good health and whose vision has been stable for the last year. It is also important to consider other health factors, including other eye disorders, medications, pregnancy and nursing.

If you are a candidate for LASIK, then a CustomVue™ treatment may be appropriate for you. To find out, your LASIK surgeon will first discuss the benefits and limitations of a CustomVue™ treatment with you. If suitable, we will then scan your eyes with a wavefront Visual Field Analyzer. This is a painless diagnostic test to take fine measurements of the interior of your eyes. Your LASIK surgeon will use the results of this test as well as all other relevant information about you to determine if a CustomVue™ LASIK treatment will benefit you more than conventional LASIK.

Is CustomVue™ better than conventional LASIK?
Not necessarily! In some cases the benefits of CustomVue™ may be so slight that you would not be able to tell the difference between a CustomVue™ treatment and conventional LASIK. Your LASIK surgeon will help you assess these benefits.
